Success Stories
At Schmidt, Kirifides, Pearson & Koutcher, we pride ourselves on
the work we do for our clients. Each case is different; therefore,
examples of our successes should not create an expectation regarding
the results we may achieve in any other case. These examples are
provided simply to illustrate the depth of our experience.
Success in a Workers' Compensation case can mean many things.
It can mean a successful appeal. It can mean a successful jury trial.
It can mean a successful resolution before the Supreme Court of
Pennsylvania. And it can mean litigating two of the largest Workers'
Compensation verdicts in recent years. Recently, our firm settled
two separate Workers' Compensation matters worth $765,000 and $410,000
for clients with catastrophic injuries.
Some additional successes include:
- Our attorneys aided in securing settlements for approximately
ten employees of a national grocery store chain resulting in gross
settlements of more than $1.5 million dollars;
- Our attorneys oversaw a hearing loss evaluation day for employees
of a major manufacturing company in Reading, Pa., that was going
out of business. As a result, we discovered that more than half
of the employees tested were eligible for and received additional
hearing loss benefits.
- Our attorneys litigated and attained a favorable outcome for
the claimant where a local union member had a severe ankle injury
but the employer denied the case saying that the employee was
participating in "horse play."
This is just a small sample of what we have done for clients. We are also quite proud of the relationships we maintain in and out of our office. When asked what our greatest personal successes are, we all agreed that it's how well we work together and how much we love the work that we do. As a result, each year, we also make a substantial donation to KIDS' CHANCE, Inc. (www.kidschance.org), a nonprofit corporation that provides financial scholarships for children of permanently or catastrophically injured or deceased workers to complete their education. This is our way of giving back.
The bottom line is that we love the work we do. It is important to us that we can work to help our clients navigate the complex Workman's Compensation system with the goal of securing all the benefits that each client is due under the law. |

Q. What if my doctor and the insurance company's doctor disagree?
If the insurance company doctor feels that you have fully or partially recovered from
your work injury, but your own doctor believes that you are still disabled and unable
to return to work, the insurance company may file a petition to challenge your benefits.
A Workers' Compensation judge will hear each doctor's medical opinion and render a decision
based on their testimony.
